The Eames Plastic Chair was the first industrially manufactured plastic chair in history, and it remains the gold standard for democratic design.

Since 2024, Vitra has transitioned the entire collection to 'RE' (Recycled) material, ensuring this 1950s classic meets 21st-century sustainability standards without losing its tactile soul.

The DSR is a chameleon. It pairs beautifully with heavy, solid wood dining tables (like the Vitra Nelson Bench used as a side table) to provide a sense of visual lightness.

Commitment to Originality

Charles and Ray Eames spent years exploring the fundamental idea of a one-piece seat shell molded to fit the contours of the human body. The DSR is the purest expression of that effort. What makes it editorial-worthy today is the evolution of its materiality

Philosophy

The Longevity of Original Design

Vitra refuses to compromise on the 'original.' To them, a design is not just a shape, but a relationship with the author. By manufacturing pieces that are technically and aesthetically durable, they ensure that a chair is never a disposable commodity, but an environmental asset that lasts for generations

Origin

Reimagined in German

The recycled raw material for the new Eames Plastic Chairs is sourced through the German 'Yellow Bag' household waste collection. By processing this waste in Europe, Vitra significantly reduces energy consumption and climate-damaging emissions compared to traditional plastic production

Process

The Eiffel Tower Base

The 'Rod Base' is a masterpiece of steel engineering. Each wire is bent and welded with robotic precision to create a three-dimensional structure that distributes weight evenly. The chrome finish is applied to a high-gloss standard, ensuring the base reflects light and adds a jewel-like quality to your flooring
